Theme Park Essentials: Top 5 Portable Fans

fans

Theme Park Essentials

It’s that time of year again when we start to put away the winter boots and break out the flip flops!  While it’s exciting, it also means we’re heading into the “sweaty season”.  That’s why this installment of our Theme Park Essentials is covering Portable Fans. Orlando gets hot, really hot.  If you are planning a Spring Break trip or a Summer Vacation trip – we highly suggest you grab one of the fans below! We promise, you’ll be glad you did when you’re standing on Main Street waiting for the parade and you’re 5-10 degrees cooler than the sweaty guy next to you!

1) Handheld Fan

A small handheld fan is a great option to help fight the heat and humidity while waiting in line!  A little rechargeable fan like this one can be a vacation-saver!  Typically one that costs a little more should have more longevity and a nice feature with this fan is that it can be recharged with a USB cable!  There are many USB charging stations throughout the Disney parks, so you’ll be covered!

2) Misting Fan

This is where you get the ultimate cool!  Adding the water mist to your fan will help you achieve coolation much quicker!  Fans like this one are nice because they are sleek, can easily fit into luggage and backpacks, and can be recharged with a USB cable.

3) Stroller Fan

We can’t stress enough the importance of having a stroller fan.  Orlando gets hot and you don’t want your children to get dehydrated or worse while trying to enjoy the parks.  There are many options out there, you can go for something more expensive that should last a while or something less expensive just to cover your trip.  Here are two great options:

4) Fans for the Whole Family/Group

These types of fans are a great option if you’re heading to the parks with a large group or several young children who will want their own fan.  These fans are no fuss, take 1 AA battery, and provide an easy way to get cool.  They are inexpensive and small, making them great for travel and theme park use.

5) Aromatic Fan

Ever been waiting in line in a confined space on a hot day?  Didn’t you wish you had a Febreze bottle with you to clear the air of the fresh tourist sweat smell?  Fans like this one solve that problem!  Not only does this fan give you a delightful breeze, there is also a compartment to fill with your favorite aroma to be disbursed in those dire situations!  This item is theme park gold!

Disney's Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Closure Announced

With the upcoming expansion of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney Parks made an official announcement this morning on its blog that the stunt show Lights, Motors, Action! will close on April 2, 2016.  This announcement was expected as we all knew the Streets of America area would be closing for construction on the new Star Wars land and Toy Story land.

Here is the official announcement from the Disney Parks blog:

In order to bring our new lands to life, the first steps of the expansion will be happening soon. We wanted to let you know that Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show and nearby locations around Streets of America will be closing on April 2, 2016. The Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show attraction will continue its daily shows until the closing date.

Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show

Lights, Motors, Action! opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 5, 2005 and presented an extreme stunt show displaying stunts with cars and explosions.  Over its 11 year run, this show has gained some very devoted fans.

More Closures to Come

The Disney Parks blog also mentions that the nearby locations around Streets of America will be closing as well.  There has been no clarification at this time if that includes Muppet Vision 3-D, however we already know that the nearby Pizza Planet restaurant has been closed for refurbishment.

If you’re hoping to experience this show one more time or even take in the atmosphere of the Streets of America, be sure to head to Disney’s Hollywood Studios before April 2!

Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights Highlights | Osborne Family

Osborne Family Lights

Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights are back at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and if you haven’t heard, it’s the 20th and final year (you can read about that announcement here).  We recently spent the evening soaking in all the lights, music, and fake snow on the Streets of America and we captured some of it to share with you!  What an amazing display by the Osborne Family and we are so sad to see them go!

Check out our highlights video here:

Osborne Family Lights Tips

We also wanted to give you some tips if you plan to head to see the lights dance one more time this year:

  1. Get there early:  We recommend getting there about 30 minutes before the sun sets.  You’ll be able to get a good spot for the initial lighting and it’s also a neat experience to see the Streets of America change from dark to very light!  Another perk of being there early is that you will be in before most of the crowd starts flowing in and you’ll feel less like herded cattle.
  2. Take your time:  There are a lot of little details, especially this year, and you don’t want to miss them.  Don’t feel pressured by the natural flow of the crowd to move through the area quickly.  Step off to the side and really enjoy the lights and the atmosphere.  After all, this will be your last chance!
  3. Bathroom break:  Don’t worry, if you need to use the restroom while in the area there’s actually a large restroom area back near the Lights, Motors, Action! attraction.  So don’t leave the area just to use the potty.
  4. Wait for Photopass:  This is one instance where we’ll suggest waiting in line for PhotoPass rather than trying to snap a selfie or have another guest take your picture.  Definitely take some of those as well, but we suggest getting one or two PhotoPass pictures because these cast members are able to really capture the beauty of the lights and you won’t have as many people crowded on top of you while you’re trying to take the picture.
  5. Merry and Bright Dessert Party:  Look into booking the dessert party if you’d like a VIP experience.  If you choose to book this, you’ll enter a blocked off area that looks down the main strip.  There are tables and chairs for you to sit and take in the sights and sounds.  For more information or to book, check out the official Disney website.

Osborne Family Lights Photos

We will probably be heading back to see the Osborne Family Lights a few more times before they are shut down for good!  We hope you’ll be able to experience them at least one more time as well!

runDisney: It’s Fun to Run! | runDisney

runDisney

We had the chance this past weekend to experience a runDisney event.  We participated in the Mickey’s Jingle Jungle 5K which was part of the Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World.  We had a blast and wanted to highlight a few things that we learned and experienced from the runDisney weekend!  Below we’ve listed tips and info about the races and above is a video highlighting our race weekend!

runDisney Tips

  1. Open to All: You do not need to be a hardcore runner to take part in a runDisney race.  Now granted, we did the fun run.  If you try to walk one of their half marathons, you will get picked up by a pacer.  However, the fun runs allow runners and walkers to take part in the experience.  There really is a race for all, even a kids race!
  2. Book a Disney Hotel Package: After you register for a runDisney race, you will receive information about booking a hotel package for the race weekend.  Definitely look into booking one of these if you’ll be staying in Orlando for that weekend.  The prices are reasonable and they also give you a booklet of extras, including mini golf vouchers, meal vouchers, and a discount card!

  1. Dress Up!: These runDisney events are a perfect excuse to get creative and dress up in something Disney or something related to the run you’re doing!  There are so many creative outfits, so don’t be afraid to have fun with it!                                          runDisney
  2. Plan Ahead: These races sell out the same day they open for registration, so if you’re considering registering for one, plan ahead!  Know the date registration opens and be ready at the website right at opening.  Otherwise, you might miss out.

  1. Organized Fun:  Disney definitely has a great system down when it comes to placing everyone where they need to be.  From picking up the bib to the finish line, we knew exactly where we needed to go.  This allowed us to have more fun with less stress!
  2. Souvenirs!:  The event expo has some awesome merchandise available related to the run you are doing (car magnets, etc.).  Be sure to take some time to check out what they’re offering and bring some extra spending money!

Jimmy Fallon Ride Replacing Twister at Universal Orlando | Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Fallon Ride to Open

It has been announced on Universal Orlando’s official blog that Jimmy Fallon will get his own ride at Universal Studios Florida. It was also discussed by Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show on Tuesday night.

There had been rumors swirling around the closing of the attraction, Twister, which has been a low-attended attraction for many years.  Additionally, an attraction involving Jimmy Fallon, was discussed among theme park enthusiasts.  The discussion made sense because Fallon is connected to Universal through NBC.

It has now been made official that the new Jimmy Fallon ride will replace Twister, confirming those previous rumors.

Jimmy Fallon “Race Through New York”

The new attraction is set to open sometime in 2017.  It will feature a comedic journey of Jimmy Fallon racing through the streets of his beloved New York City.  This premise will fit in perfectly with the city theme of the attraction’s surrounding area.

This attraction should draw visitors.  Jimmy Fallon has gained a large amount of popularity after taking over the Tonight Show in 2014.

Excited Jimmy Fallon Discusses New Ride

Jimmy Fallon provided viewers Tuesday night with some details about the new ride, saying that the ride will be a 3-D attraction.  He compared the new ride to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction and stated, “It’s like that except instead of Harry Potter, it’s me.”

Twister Closing

It has also been announced that Twister will close on November 2, 2015.  The attraction opened on May 4, 1998 and had a nice run in the park considering the movie it was based on is almost 20 years old.
